Detroit Regional Chamber Website Redesign

Designed for FWD

Located in the heart of Detroit’s central business district, the Detroit Regional Chamber (DRC) is one of the oldest, largest and most respected chambers of commerce in the country. As the voice of business in the 11-county Southeast Michigan region, the Chamber’s mission is to create a business-friendly climate and drive economic growth. Despite this mission, their website was visually and functionally outdated.

While in contract with FWD, the goal I was tasked with was to redesign a new, modernized, seamless website experience to match the extraordinary vision that DRC touts.

Previous Design

Starting with the 10+ years old site design, I took note to improve on the disorganized navigation, cluttered article layout, and confusing hierarchy of page information. Through the research of other fellow business chambers across the country, best practices for news-based websites, and elevated use of their branding, I designed a contemporary website fit for DRC in today’s age.

Wireframes

For the wireframing process, Melanie Derro (Graphic Designer and Partner - FWD) created the wireframes. The wireframes created had set a firm foundation for the rest of the design/prototyping process to get to the new and improved contemporary solution.

New Design

The final solution for the site came to be a refreshing, clean, and professional design for DRC’s chamber members and other visitors to be able to seamlessly and efficiently get recent business news, search for resources, gather stats/data, and above all else build a connection to the larger business ecosystem of Metro Detroit.
